Just had a V+ installed. A little disappointed. It is slower flicking between channels and the box itself is quite ugly. It is made Atlanta. The guy from virgin said it was made by Sony. My question is: Is this about the norm or do virgin have better looking faster boxes?

its the only one they do mate, get them to up the signal of your connection..it may help with the channel changing..

the lower the signal, the more the stb has to work at getting sound and picture

Increasing the signal will not make the slightest bit of difference, unless you're experiencing sound and picture problems (blanking & stuttering). Unfortunately slow channel changing is a characteristic of the box with the current software.

Bear in mind when you change channel the hard drive kicks in and starts recording so you can rewind TV back to when you changed channel. This means a slight delay.

Thanks for the comments. Is there any way of switching off the hard disk so that I get faster channel changing.

Also do you think I can cancel my contract with Virgin Media - someone said that there is a 30 day money back satisfaction guarantee - if that is the case I may go back to sky (they did offer me a Sky+ box for £49.99 when I cancelled my subscription yesterday).

Jesus, how fast do you want to change channels? aint a couple of seconds fast enough?, it,s the price you pay for having 3 processors, i think the V+ functionality far outweighs a couple of seconds pause between changing channels.

You could always put a Xbox faceplate over the front if you dont like the looks, talk about picky!!:rotfl:

o.k. o.k. I am getting used to it - it's beginning not to bother me so much

I beginning to see the benefits that are out weighing the sluggish channel changing.

My only problem now is that there is sooooo much to watch with on demand, catch up tv, recorded programmes, I just don't know where to start (also the one benefit of sluggish channel changing is that I am less inclined to channel hop). There is no pleasing some people I suppose :D
