    Hello!

I've just discovered this forum when looking for a solution to my problem. I am not tech-minded at all, so I hope you'll simplify your answers for me!?

I have my second 7400. The first one was sent back to Currys with a mark on the screen.

My replacement arrived yesterday. It took a while to set up - my wireless soundbar didn't want to connect. when it was all working, I noticed the menu box was still visible while watching freeview. It faded gradually over about half an hour.

An hour later, the TV was on a show called 'Letterbox' for 30 minutes. I wasn't watching but apparently it's like 'Hangman' and keeps a box at the bottom of the screen. It's on/off throughout the show but there for a solid 2-3 minutes at a time.

When I changed channels, I noticed I could see a ghosting of that show. I checked it wasn't a tuner issue and checked it with a DVD. Still there. Once again, it faded after 30 minutes or so

I've always been aware of screen burn but surely a short show on an LED shouldn't cause it?

Samsung support told me to reset my picture settings. And the classic 'turn if off and back on again',

I'm guessing this isn't right? What causes it? Is it another defective TV or is it me?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Jurph.

It has happened again, even after the picture settings were reset.

First picture is of the programme that was on. Second picture is of the lines I continue to see for about half an hour.

It certainly makes me reluctant to watch a film or something longer that could cause permanent damage.

Is this just something in the settings or do I need to send this one back too?

    Jurph.

It’s temporary image retention. I certainly wouldn’t be worried about watching a film or whatever.

The risk of permanent damage is minimal.

But he says it goes away? It’s a known issue with ips panels, but shouldn’t be permanent.

It fades gradually over about half an hour.

It happens with bright (white?) images. The first time I noticed it was after setting it up. The menu & settings screen imprinted for about half an hour.

It was delivered yesterday. It's brand new.

I'm a little surprised this is 'normal' - I didn't even see anything like this on my Plasma 15 years sgo.

Respectfully, it is normal with ips panels. It’s not permanent.

It’s not normal with va panels but this model is not guaranteed to be one.

He can try for an exchange but it’s not guaranteed to be accepted.

Know issue ? This is the first case Iv read for years.. The very nature of LCD makes this very very rare..Im thinking this is more a driver to the Panel fault.. Iv owned a few LG IPS panels LCD TVs in the past..Non of them did this and if they did I would return it asap.

I might be showing my lack of knowledge here - but I thought it was an LED not an LCD?

It's still an LCD tv, it just uses LED behind the Panel.

True. But Samsung are known to use different panels in the lower ranges. This particular model has va and ips.

Personally, given the limited time passed, I’d try for a replacement. But also wouldn’t get my hopes up.

Just updated my post, but you may have not seen it..

Anyhow, there review of the only Samsung IPS Panel tv they have "is a different model" but they said this..
"The Samsung M5300 does not suffer from temporary image retention"

I agree tho, I would defo get it exchanged asap.

Is there a way I can find out what type of panel it has? Will it help you?

    I guess it's another return.

I'm starting to think I should pick a different one.

There's a label on the back of the tv.. Just take a pic of it and post it..
Can I ask did the first one do this ?

But yes return it as it's brand new, dont be bullied into keeping it either.. Tell them it's unacceptable for a brand new tv to have lines on a screen.

Ah ok. I'll be about to do it in 20 minutes or so.

No, the first one had a permanent mark on the screen - like something had been pressed against it for a while.

This was the first one. Nothing major but obviously not what I wanted from a new tv.

I'm off to bed now, but seeing your first one never did it..I would return. Post pic and I'll look in the morning but it's not going to solve your problem..
Only an exchange will.. Your just unlucky, so welcome to the world of the game called the tv Panel lottery..

Remember it's not personal, company's just have crap quality controls in place, but stick to your guns and keep returning untill your happy..

I'm guess the bit needed is under the cables I can't get to?

    Tv number 3!

What is going on?! This can't be normal.

A CBS reality 30 minute show has left a ghost image and lines where it was in widescreen.

Once again, after 20 minutes or so it's faded.
