    Are they set in stone?
Never used them before. Just looked and it says for a particular journey £17-23. Ok happy with that, but will the most I pay be £23??

It says it doesn't take weather or traffic into account, so possible I could be charged more?

I've only used it a few times abroad and it was under or at the lower limit.

If a massive traffic jam came along then I guess you could end up paying more in waiting time charges but I guess that would happen with a normal taxi anyhow.

Yes it should be under £23.

The only thing I've noticed is some drivers can be a little bit cheeky and after dropping u off not switch the charge off straight away. That was in L.A though and not in the UK.

I've used it in London this past weekend and didn't have any problems with uber.

Also if it's the first time using them there is a code for £15 off your first ride.

Never used it in the UK but in the States it's normally lower, but if you book at a prime time (we tried to get one after a Black Keys concert) and it went up by X6, so we waited an hour and it was back to normal.

If it's your first time use promo code aland286, you'll get a free ride up to 20 quid I think and I get the same, so if you have a friend that has uber, use their code, the receiving person does not get the credit until the new user makes his first journey.

It is the first time, but it says a promo code is already applied?

Of course he does :D (*I think)

Almost every time I've taken an Uber (in London) it's been under the higher estimate band; the one time it was above was because the driver didn't know that Blackwall Tunnel was closed, then went the wrong way so had to keep going for another couple of miles, then missed a turn, etc. Still, it was only a bit above the upper quote.

You get a free ride up to 20 quid (I think it's 20) and so do I, win win. Only works when you first sign up and do your first uber I believe.

But does that really matter if the new member is getting a free ride.

You'd make a good insurance salesman (I recommend this product - definitely best for you) :p

Seriously though - posting a link which gives you money on one of the biggest uk forums could be very lucrative :p. Especially if you forget to mention it. Mods take down sneaky Amazon affiliate links from people - I wonder if there it's an official policy on Uber codes.

I'll leave it up to your integrity to decide if you want to take it down or update it to make it clear you trouser a free ride each fine it's used :)

Unless someone is obviously making a career of it, policy is to allow it, so long as it is made clear. As it now has, it's OK.

May not be possible but could consider having a thread for affiliate links for things such as this, things that people find useful where the referer gets a bonus,

On the upside, I hear Uber may be coming to nottingham soon so might make user of that link ;-)

It's funny being in the pub when someone says they are not on Uber, and everyone who is dives for their phone to get a referral code to give them :) Of course the savvy ones know their codes by heart.

A friend of mine got an Uber a short ish distance across London recently - a few miles but London traffic made it over 50 minutes. The total fare was about £18 which seemed pretty reasonable.
