I had to have a front tyre replaced on my Golf GTD. I am now wondering should I have replaced the other front tyre at the same time? The old tyre has 3mm worth of rubber left. I have only done about 10 mile on the new one.

Not necessarily, if they are both the same brand i.e. Both continental sport contact 5 then personally I'd leave it, if ones a continental and the others a Pirelli I'd change the one with less tread.

3mm? That tyre is near end of life, especially with winter approaching.

Depending on time of year I change my tyres between 2-3mm, New vs 3mm would be a noticeable difference so worth changing both.

One of those things you might not notice until you really need them to deliver in a over cooked it into a corner or need to stop in a straight line to avoid a child sorta way.

I would definately replace the other one!
