Taken from here. The R1 version doesn't have these problems.

But the region 1 will have almost 100 lines less resolution!

Edit: Most of that review the you've posted actually praises the audio, and comments about music used in the film relates to all versions surely!

Read the complete review and related ones on the site. There is a reason I bought the R1 realease instead of R2 and it wasn't price.

It's not that the R2 is bad, just that the R1 is (slightly) better. It comes down to the audio rather than picture.

I'm just trying to give you guys a heads up, if you have already bought it don't worry about it, most people probably won't notice.

From the same link. These guys if anything tendency to recommend the R2/4 over the R1 so when they favour the R1, I take it seriously. It's a very good review site.

The review of the original version due to the sharpening of the R1 version meant it was a much harder decision. Below is a more detailed description of the differences taken from here. Remember that that review is for the original 2 disc version in which the video of the R1 is not as good (due to excessivesharpening). As you can see it is a split decision.

    continued...

[Edit] I'm already involved in an arugment of sorts in another part of the forums. I have no wish to have another one here. I have presented some information which I hope will allow people to make an informed decision about which version of FOTR to buy. I went for R1 because it looked like the best verison to me. I have no problem with anyone else deciding differently.

I'm only trying to help, honestly, but I seem to attract arguments at the moment :(

thanks for posting all that. It made very interesting reading, especially as I've just traded my Reg 1 for a Reg 2 set..lol.
But I did have the Reg 2 previously and as is stated above the differences are so miniscule I wont let it bother me.
Nonetheless..it really does make a good read. Thanks again
    :)

I've heard that this is only applicable on some releases of the R2 set, or is it fact that it's on all of them?

I'm unaware of any problems with my R2 gift set as I haven't had a chance to watch it yet! And to be honest, i'm going to wait until I have all 3 extended versions, and watch them back to back!

In case anyone gets suckered by the amazon "buy both" prices - they are NOT cheaper if you buy them together. Add the prices for the individual items and it comes to the same price. One of the few things that I don't like about amazon, this makes people think that the are saving money when they are not.

i've watched the R2 (FOTR) about 14/15 times (yes i know i should get out more) and ive not noticed these problems, while i'll accept my system is a long way from the best here - it still cost me about £4k, so its not an alba.

I'll get my ears and eyes adjusted and try again ;) ;) ;)

    Gary,

Wouldn't do that mate. If you have a set of eyes that mask disc problems I'd keep 'em :)
