    I have just bought one and I am having problems recording and a search is not bringing much up to help.

    I plugged it in, did the install and messed with the guide etc, pretty much like most boxes. I then recorded some snippets, the first one stopped due to no signal (aerial fine), second stuttered on play back, after this if I press record and return to the library I am faced with a cannot play message.

    I have had it show the Pace screen, only show Ch 5. and "inlt".

    Done the initialise disc and reset thing and it will not play the recording program and stops it when going to the library.

    Any help to prevent a return appreciated.

    I assume you can press record whilst a program is on and not have to go through the timer/guide?

    I would imagine that your new box has an older flakier version of the firmware onboard.

    The next update for the Twin is due on 5th June, you'll need to leave your box tuned to a BBC channel overnight and it should automatically pick up the update.

    If it still doesn't play ball after this, then I'd have a word with your retailer.

    Easy way to see if it has the original (buggy) software:

    Does text work?

    No = original software
    Yes = a revised version

    We have high hopes for the June release - it has been a long time coming. Hopefully this is indicative of an extended development testing and bugfix cycle.

    As already mentioned - you need to be tuned in and swtched on to a BBC channel on the broadcast date. I assume that you get clean reception on e.g. BBC1??

    Thanks for the info, yes it has the origional software and I will leave it on Saturday morning. I phoned the retailer and they will also swop it it Saturday for a new one, is this level of poor quality to expected in none upgraded Twins or is it hit and miss?
    I am unsure as to whether I should just exchange it anyway so any ideas welcome and have many people seen theirs improve after the upgrade?
    Regards
    Ged

    Oh yes.....previous upgrades (the October one, repeated several times since) made a huge difference.....
    This is almost certainly NOT a hardware issue; I recommend you wait until after a satisfactory update, before troubling your retailer.

    Nigel, I missed the software upgrade earlier this week - any idea when it will be repeated?

    You can keep an eye on two places:

    pacefreetoview.co.uk/02ee.asp

    (Pace don't like people linking to their website, so type it in prefixed with www.)

    and

    www.dtg.org.uk ..... on the menu: Retailer/Installer > Engineering channel download schedule
