That switch is normally for controlling a VHS or DVD player made by the same company. My mums TV remote has one, but she got her TV, DVD, and VHS as a Package.

I may be wrong but im pretty sure thats what its for.

I was under the impression that manufactures all have certain codes for their products that can be recognised by other remotes? When I bought my VHS it had a list of codes for TV manufactures so the remote could control the TV.

Itshould control certain models from the same manufacturer. Ie a pannasonic VHS, and TV. However , it is unlikely to control a much older model.

    Hope this helps.
