TV not communicating with stereo amplifier

Novice Member
Hello everybody,

I've just set up my Marantz PM6005, paired with some Wharfies, and I am very happy with the sound quality so far.

However, I am having trouble connecting my TV to the amp through optical cable. The input indicator on the amp is just flashing and no sound is coming out of the speakers.
When I connect the optical cable to my old sound system it works just fine, so there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the signal.

When I look in the Marantz manual (p. 40) it says that the amp only takes 2-channel Linear PCM. If not, the indicator lamp will flash.

But as far as I can see, that is what the Samsung TV is sending out. When I enter the TV sound menu, I get to choose between having a Dolby output or PCM output. So I've chosen the PCM output (see page 19 in the Samsung manual).

What could be wrong here?

Thank you so much for your help.

Best regards,
