A while back a person knocked on my door wanting to do a survey about telly viewing habits etc. I wasn't doing anything so I invited him in and I completed the survey. Afterwards he asked me if I would be interested in a follow-up in a few months, I said ok.
A person came this weekend to follow-up on the survey and said would I be interested in having a box attached to my tellies and a bit of software installed on my computer. It would record my viewing habits and I would receive an award for taking part - high street vouchers etc. I have just received a phone call to confirm that I have been selected to take part.

Has anyone else taken part in this scheme?

I've heard of that one, I'm in a similar kind of thing for shopping where I scan it in and upload receipts every week and I get vouchers for doing that.

I think I tried this Barb panel but couldn't due to already being on this shopping scheme.

I read in the supplied booklet that a single person gets at least £100 a year.

Each person in the house gets assigned a button on the handset to say they are watching the telly, when they leave the room to do something else they have to sign out. If each gets a £100 it looks like I'm going to have a lot of imaginary friends over to watch the telly :D

Only joking I'll play the game with them and do things properly. Supposedly people do it for years.

It's 200 Wh - I assume that means per year although it isn't stated (naughty).

There are about 8,760 hours per year so if it's on 24x7 that's about 0.023W if the power draw is constant and continuous or about 0.14W if it's on for say four hours of tv viewing per day.

We had it installed in our house back in the mid-nineties. I think the adults got £100 per year (2) and me and my brother got £50 each.

This was before the internet existed so everything was done via a box attached to the televisions.

Will almost certainly invalidate any warranty you have on your televisions.

per day :) I kWh costs about 15p. 15p x 0.2 = 3p which is what they say it costs per day to run. So the meter is just over 8W.

    According to this:

How we do what we do - BARB

it uses sound to identify what is being watched (!) - not clear how it gets it.

We use to do it but got kicked due to the missus constant use of Babestation. Apparantley they need a more broader use of channel selection to make it worth while.

Some of the betting apps on iPhone work via sound, it must be a similar system.

Which is something I've wondered about over the years tbh.
