Turntable connection help please

Standard Member

My son is just about to buy an old turntable (pioneer PL).

He currently has a pair of fostex pm1 mk2 (active) and a focusrite 2i2 which he uses for guitar work.

He wants to connect the turntable to the speakers.

He'll need a turntable amp and I presume some sort of mixer to allow him to switch between the turntable and the focusrite.

I thought this would do the job.

I also thought that someone on here must have a better idea...

To get him going he could just get a Behringer PP400 phono preamp/stage to connect the turntable to, this can then plug into the two input channels on the Focusrite using mono 1/4”TRS to RCA adaptors or cables. Obviously he wouldn’t be able to use the guitar at the same time but this would do the job for little £. Only issue is unplugging / plugging in when swapping from turntable to guitar.

Don't know much about pro audio stuff but looks like it will do the job, worth checking which port the guitar will be plugged into and the guitar output is compatible - main l/r or mic.

Your initial solution will work well. Plug the output of the Focusrite into the stereo line input of the Behringer and he will be able to play along if he so wishes.
