I've heard that SD roadcasts such as SKY or Freeview can be be a bit ropey when seen on a HD Plasma/LCD.

Is it possible to switch off the HD features on a HD capable Plasma/LCD TV depending on the source material or until HD broadcasts are available?

No, the plasma will scale all sources to its own resolution, so a freeview braodcast with 570 lines will be upscaled to 768 lines.
It isn't the lines that are the problems, it is the MPEG compression they use, even so, it looks very good on my screen.

I've got a 42PV500 and the built in freeview and Sky+ look amazing even the analouge tuner looks great. Before I bought it there were lots of threads complaining about the quality of Sky on plasma's but IMO it's better than my Tosh 32ZD26P CRT.
