Bit of a wild stab but has anybody been to turkey lately. I'm off to Istanbul sunday for a 4 days next week and was wondering what the best method of exchange is. i.e, is it best to take sterling over there and exchange it as required or possibly exchange it here into euros and take them to use. What do the turks want us to use and whats best for me?

We go lots as my wife is Turkish. We always take pounds and change them there. We use the special money exchange places rather than banks as you get a better rate.

We came back from Turkey (Marmaris) 3 weeks ago,all the shops and restaurants in the 3 resorts we went to are happy to take pounds, we were getting 2.4/2.5 lira to the pound.

If you go into the exchange shops you will get a little less, but no need to take euro's they like our pounds just fine.

By the way while we were there we used the Dolmus to get around. Its a bit like a 12/14 seat minibus. They work fixed routes and you just put out your hand and they will stop to pick you up.When you want to get off just ask them to stop.Better than taxi's and are fixed fares, usually 1 lira (40p) each person per ride. They usually come along every 2-3 mins.

I don't know whether they have them in Istanbul but they were all around the area we visited
