I'm about to buy my first plasma and am looking at the new Panny TH-42PW6/Hitachi PMA400E, neither of these has a tuner with it. But am I right in thinking I can just plug it into the sky/cable box with the relevent connectors to get a piccy , as the sky box does the decoding etc? Won't be using my aerial cos the signal is naff.

thx

Chris,

You are correct, you don't need the tuner.

There are various options of terminal boards you can get with the Panny 6, see a recent thread "Panny 6 configuration" where I got some help with this same question. I'll give that thread a "bump" so it will show up near the top.

Thx for that Mark, sounds good to me. Now just have to check out what deals are available! :)

Chepeast I've seen is around £2600 on the internet. Need to check what is included, some package a terminal board (usually RGB SCART one) in the price.

A recent thread found one at £2589.

Another one, this one includes a free component/composite/S-video board, for £2608.50

And a third; this one you have to ask for a quote, but is a similar price I believe.

I have no experience with any of these suppliers, but it gives you an idea of the lower limit on price. I've also seen them as high as £3800 in a local shop.

There are other suppliers (some who sponser this forum) who also have competitive prices, and have been reported to offer good service.

I got mine from a small local supplier - he couldn't match these "internet prices" but I used this to negotiate a compromise on price that we were both happy with.

Good Luck.

Hi Chris, Richer Sounds are doing the Hitachi 400E for £2,499 with terminal board. The board has 1x component, 1x S-video, 1x composite, 2x audio inputs. It also has 2x VGA inputs on a separate board. I know this forum is mostly in favour of the Pannys and Pio, and I would have got a Pio if I had money to burn (which I don't) so I went for the 400E. I think its good value for money but I would also consider the NEC which has a three year warranty. The people on this forum have advised me wisely whenever I've asked for help (which is quite often), but it all comes down to personal choice in the end. Buy whatever you think best and suites your needs.
