I have been trying to record the sound from some HDDVDs onto MiniDisc but all I getting is clicking. I've tried just recording the TV and this works.

I believe this may be down to Dolby Digital as it only appears to work when I select channels (on Sky) that are not in DD.

The Minidisc recorder is an old portable unit.

Any ideas on how to solve this.

The AV Amp I have is a Yamaha DSP AX640.

Tell the HD DVD player to only output in stereo.

spdif has a copyright bit that is set when you are outputting sound from a dvd..not sure if it is present in stereo but i think it is(it's definitely set for 5.1 trackes). if it is set you won't be able to record...

I belive it is present in both multichannel and stereo, as a restriction on digital recording... So you won't be able to record anything using the optical output if the disc contains the copyright restriction...
