I am considering purchasing one of these sound cards to replace my 5.1 sonicxplosion.

I would appriciate it if you could help answer some questions for me please.

THIS is the link to the official site for it, but I can't make head nor tail of it

My current card only has optical out for the digital sound to my sony str-de697 amp/reciever. And I dont like using optical leads.

I notice this one has an coaxal out for sp/dif. however it says :

Equipped with coaxial S/PDIF stereo in and output

Why does it say it stereo? (this confused me, I even checked it out on the trust site as it does say it is capable of up to 7.1 once and if 7.q is ever released)

Will it still send a digital 5.1/6.1/7.1 signal out through the coaxal to my 7.1 channel av reciever?

Does it support all forms of dolby digital, dts etc through sp/dif?

Thank you very much for your time

    Thanks again

Personally, after having a Trust 514DX. I would spend the extra £20 and get a HDA (which is what ive just done)

The SPDIF can only be enabled when you select headphones/2 speakers in the Trust audio control panel.

I could never get 5.1 to work in MCE with the Trust card. I spent weeks trying. Others have also had the same problem.

Thanks very much for the reply :)

unfortunately I can't get another £20 at the moment, and when I saw this 7.1 one for £25 I thought it might be quite the bargain:(

I have asked the chap who's selling it and he doesn'et know (ebay) and have also emailed trust themselves too.

    What is the HDA?

Does anyone else have this particular card??

If so please let me know what you think too

    Thanks again

Someone correct me if im wrong.
But with regards to it referencing 7.1 I believe they mean through the analogue outputs on the card and not the SPDIF.

oh, and this is the HDA

    A steal for the price.

And please reccomend some more cards that may suit my needs :)

One that can support 5.1/6.1/7.1 dolby digital/dts/dd ex/dts es etc.... through a coaxal output to my av amp/reciever

Mainly for dvd playback, but some games too

    Thanks

I have the HDA card and I must say its quite amazing, it can do Dolby Digital live straight through to the optical output, the drivers are as complete as Creative's but they dont crash as much either :)

It supports up to 7.1 too and has changeable preamp OPAMP circuits so you can adjust the SNR to adjust your needs. I think its a fantastic bit of kit personally.

I do believe that the HDA is a good card, however I do not wish to carry on using optical connection to my av reciever.

I am changing from my current card so I can have a coaxal connection instead of the optical, and to go up from 5.1 - 7.1 (which is what my av amp is)

I'm not quite sure what you mean here?

HDA has both Optical TOSLINK and Coax SPDIF Outputs.

I would use the coax, or so I thought.

In a review HERE it suggests to me that for the 7.1 I have to connect it up using analog? I thought I'd be able to use the digital coax for 7.1

Is it better to connect by analog opposed to coax/optical through my sony strde697 av receiver?

I thought I'd get better sound using coaxal?

I am really getting lost now

    Please help

On the back of the box it says it supports the following

    DD 5.1, DTS 5.1, DD-EX 6.1/7.1, DTX-ES 6.1/7.1

This is what it also says in the config options...so i think you're right

    That's what I thought :(

I seem to be back to square one :suicide:

It would be better getting a card that supports 7.1 through a coaxal connection to my av reciever
    though wouldn't it?

Or if I used an analog connection would I then use the pc to set up the sound and use the card's decoder instead of my av reciever's?

    What would be best?

    Any idea's?

I'd like to get one as soon as poss

I'm also quite stuck as I only have about £25-30 to play with £15 of which is paypal balance the other tenner would come through paypal from my bank

    cheers

No fear, I'm gonna stick with the one I have.

Due to the fact that I have been told that if I'm just using the 5.1 sound card to pass through the digital signal and let my 7.1 amp do the decoding it shouldn't make a difference.

Thanks for all the advice though guy's, it will be of help for future reference :)

OK I ordered the Trust card a week ago. Only recieved it yesterday and it does do 5.1 DTS and Dolby Digital passthru the Coax just tested it with Dark City on DD and Gladiator on DTS and it passed both through fine allthough you do have to select Cmedia Wave device and not direct sound (which caused the machine to reboot) and this is on XP SP2 OS.

Hope this helps in youre Decision.

    Regards

That might actually make me buy one my friend :)

As if it does work like that, I believe that it takes the digital sound directly from the disc (be it 5.1/6.1/eventually one day 7.1 maybe, dts or dolby digital) and simply passes it through to the amp for processing.

I do prefer to use coaxal leads opposed to optical, cos I gotta be so careful with optical cos the break to easily

However I did get a messege back from the Trust website simply saying that the signal passed through the coaxal by sp/dif is simply stereo

So when you put in a disc does it say on your amp that the sound it what it should be?? On mine it says for example:

dts-es discreet 3/3.1 (which obviously is 6.1) tested using latest power dvd/win dvd and dvd x player with Lord Of The Rings

It say's that with the card I have (which is only 5.1) but I use the sp/dif and it simply take the digital sound from the disc to my amp for processing:)

Please let me know your findings, as I would much prefer a card which I can use a coaxal lead with opposed to optical

    Cheers :smashin:

I've got one of these Trust cards (514dx) and can get full AC3 to my amp via the spdif output (not through WMP10 though).

The problem is, when playing back media with AC3 I get a damn awful rapid clicking noise through my normal pc speakers. What the hell is that about!

Just got one of the 714DX card last week and hooked up to my Marantz SR5500 via the coaxial digital out... Have been getting pass through no probs with MCE2005 RU2, PowerDVD 6. Have tried DTS, DD 5.1 and all picked up by amp no probs.. first track I tried the amp was saying only 5.0 (no LFE) and was a bit worried, then turned on info in PowerDVD6.. and it said it was 5.0... phew!

    cmatt.

Have you got connected via digital? Heres how I got it working.
Load the lastest drivers from Trust's website. Start the audio rack application and in tools set your output to either headphones or 2 speaker mode, with spdif enabled.

Install AC3filter and configure as shown. It works for me in zoomplayer and winDVD, but not in WMP10.

See this post for more details http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=303965
