Can someone please tell me if the UK version of "True Lies" on DVD is censorerd? Or should I buy the Region-1 version?

    Thanks.

I'm not sure if it's cut or not, but to be honest I'd wait, I'm pretty sure we'll see some sort of 5-star special edition in the not too distant future. If you can't wait, then why not go for R4 - it's uncut and VERY cheap.

The UK R2 disk is cut, although would probably get it uncut in current climate if resubmitted to BBFC given T2 and Robocop have been recently allowed uncut.

If you want one now as suggested above get R4
However if you are prepared to wait there is a 5 Star edition coming in the US. This was scheduled around now but has been delayed because of its terrorists content after 9/11. However should be out be late 2002 or early 2003.

Exactly what has been cut from R2 version?

And what TV system (PAL/NTSC/etc) is R4?

    Thanks.

I have R4 and this is PAL (as are almost all R4 releases), it is also dual encoded R2 and R4 so will work on an unmodified player. If this is important for you do check other R4 titles before buying as some are R4 only (most Village Roadshow releases for example).

The cuts are to the violence, not sure of the precise details but they are substantial in the UK. I know one cut is with the torture scene after they are caught by the terrorists.

    HI,

Most of the censorship cuts to "True Lies" for the UK cinema and video versions, include:

    - neck snapping by Arnie on various people
    - excessive use of guns/bullets to kill small numbers of people
    - sadistic overtones on some of the more violent scenes, especially early on in the movie, when some bad guys attack him in the Men's Room, and he smashes one man's head into a urinal block. (This scene has been especially toned down!)
    - use of knives and similar (household) implements

Some of this censorship was made before the BBFC got their hands on it, so it's not entirely their fault. However, the film has turned up several times on the Carlton Cinema cable film channel, in its original uncut US cinema version!

    Hi encaser

Without getting the disc out wasn’t that line in the original script Arnie was going to say before he shot his wife, and they thought it a bit harsh so changed it to after he shot her and it then became "consider that a divorce"

The R2 version is cut by 9 seconds (the washroom fight scene), although it is anarmophic unlike the R1 version. But you can get an uncut version on R4 which is anamorphic. A good source for comparing different region coded DVD's is www.bytesandbobs.com. Hope this helps.

:D Having just watched my R1 version of the film, without these parts in the film, it just wouldn't be Arnie. Highly enjoyable.

I learn so many handy tips from films like this, just in case I fancy going on a killing spree.

If you wanna learn how to head-butt you'll need to see the uncensored version of the next star wars.

I'll keep an eye out. I'll add it to my many other talents.

Thanks to Hollywood, I can steal diamonds from impenetrable banks, kick the hell out of 20 bads guys at once, avoid being shot by twenty bad guys at once, whilst wiping them out with 10 bullets. Work out who murderers are in 20 seconds, charm women with my eyes shut, and generally be an all round hero.

Cheers USA, must watch more films.:D

Although the initial delay to the 5***** True Lies may have been caused by the fall out after 9-11, I wonder if now they might not wait until True Lies 2 appears (maybe summer '03), perhaps even until the DVD is released (xmas '03).

Of course TL2 may not happen at all, but I sure hope it will.
