True Hd Sound

Having just bought a HD E1 I am now running the picture via HDMI direct to my Pio 436XDE and the sound via optical through Yamaha AX757 amp. I am very pleased generally with the 5.1 sound but am wondering how much better "true" HD sound would be and also what amps I should consider if I decide to go down the upgrade route (my current amp deosn't have HDMI input).

Hi there,

Have just set-up my XA1 to run the new audio formats via the 5.1 analogs and True-HD IS a BIG step up - I can't believe the increased dynamics:eek:

No idea about amps/receivers, but if you had - I think - the XE1 (UK model) you could use the players built in analogs on a relatively decent current receiver; no need to upgrade:D Of course, I understand this isn't much of an option for you:(

But when you do get it (and DTS-HD) you'll be blown away:thumbsup:

Best regards,

You need an amp with multi-channel LPCM through HDMI.
The difference is quite impressive and sounds similar to connecting a mega power amp to your system!

Models such as the Sony STR-DA3200ES, Denon AVR2307 and Onkyo 604/674 all have this ability. You will be looking at around £400-£600 for one though so they ain't cheap!

Be careful of cheaper ones with HDMI though as most of the lesser models cannot output audio through HDMI, they only act as an image switcher allowing you to connect two HDMI sources and have just one cable going to your screen. Ones in the £200-£300 usually fall into this category.

Hi well i agree with all the comments so far and i can assure you you will be very inmpressed with the new HD soundtracks,it's a massive jump from the old stuff. If your serious do your research as some amps are not up to the job.
I myself use the Denon 2807 which works flawlessly with the Xe1 (so it would work just as well with the E1) and it also matches great with the Ps3.Cheers.
