Troubleshooting - speaker hum

    Hi all,

I just invested in a NAD 741 receiver and a pair of Diamond 8.2s to run alongside my Marantz CD67mkIIOSE and, for DVD playback...>coughs<...PlayStation 2. (Hey - I'm just starting out on this whole AV thing!)

I bi-wired the Diamonds up to the NAD and, even with nothing connected to the amp's inputs, I get quiet, but discernable, low frequency hum when the unit is on. The level of hum doesn't change when I alter the volume on the amp.

I tried different power sockets, no joy. Both speakers and amp work on 8ohm impedence.

So, before I go through the whole palaver of testing:

    Current setup without bi-wiring
    Diamonds with old amp
    NAD with old speakers
and finally getting retailer to give me new amp and speakers

Can anyone suggest if there's something obvious I got wrong?

    Thanks in advance
