I am looking at 5.1 or 6.1 home cinema package that looks good as well as performs in a 40sqm room. Dont want anything big and squarish that takes up a lot of space. Have looked at the above three but have no experience with those brands. the minipods look very cool. Have any of you tried some of these. what would you recommend? anything else I should consider? :lease:

Look out for our new Genie system by MS on sale in september. £800 gets you 5.1 and £1000 7.1. Most major HiFi mags have run a preview on it.

Thanx for the advice Ian but I am based in Bulgaria. Just had a look at the MS Genie system on the web. It looks tasty but dunno if its gonna be able to eclipse the KEF 2005, the latter has been getting some top reviews for a while now.

I demoed a set of castles against Kef 5005 and 2005, recently - no competition, the castles blew them away especially if you want music capability as well...

never heard of them, looked 'em up a minute ago. They seem to be made to high standard but I want something funkier and less space-taking

What amplification are you planning on using with your surround sound system and how important is two channel playback if you plan to use the system for Music Reproduction too?

    Best regards

Just noticed Minipod is 4 ohm. Not entirely sure what that means but most modern receivers I have seen have a little switch on the back allowing you to choose between 6 or 8 ohms. Does that mean that they are not suitable for the minipod?

You know and can read that the Kef Eggs speak for themselves.

I've just recently swapped a full-size setup (Wharfedale Diamonds) for a Kef 2005.2/5005 setup, as i wanted more room with a discrete sound. I'm not disappointed so far. Ok, i only really watch movies, but thumbs up from me  I'm glad i upgraded the centre egg to a 5005 though, as the centre egg doesn't seem "beefy" enough.

I've not auditioned the other sats mentioned though. Was happy with the sound and price of the eggs.

You mentioned 'trendy' in your original post. Have you auditioned the new Mission M-Cube system. Reports from WHFS&V Show were very positive though I think it may only be 5.1 out of the box.

Much positive feedback on the Cantons but I like the Minipods better + I love them in black finish. Its just that 4 ohm rating thats bugging me. Any ohm experts here. What would be a good amp for the minipod system?

Having a smaller resistance rating means the amplifier will have to produce a bit more current, however these are small speakers and generally not very demanding so you shouldn't have a problem with most AV Receivers from the likes of Denon and Yamaha etc. (not sure about the budget models)
We regularly sell Denon Receivers with M&K K7s (4 ohm) with no problems, even when played for long periods of time at a moderate volume.

thanx for the advice horny. the 300 dont seem to be available in black so if I go for Canton it would be 4x100s + the centre and a SVS/Velodyne sub.

btw has anyone here heard of or seen the Scandyna Macropod (not sure whether this is the correct name for it) It is basically a Minipod with a 10" bass-station all in one. A minipod dealer here in Bulgaria told me about it but he did not have it and did not know much about it either. Its picture loads at www.podspeakers.com but I cant find any info, google has nothing too.

Have to put another vote in for the Canton's. I heard these at the weekend on a budget AV system and they were great! Good value for money and they look the part.

Do the Cantons go loud with conviction? I need a system that can fill my pretty big room (7x4m) with sound. As with many other things sound quality and quantity are two very different things. For example many people here criticise bose but they manage to fill with sound some very big spaces that others fail to.

I've got minipods as part of a stereo set-up at the moment and they're about to become part of a new AV set-up. I'm planning on using a cinepod as centre and micro pods as rears (sub not yet determined). I've never had any problems driving the mini-pods, albeit with a stereo amp.

They look good and sound good.
