Well Glasgow actually in particular here G20 0XA The Altum Building to be precise. I will be using public transport and this will involve a train journey. Although I have travelled by train twice in the past decade I have not had to purchase a ticket as they were provide.
So rather than make a fool of myself in public I thought I would do it here and ask some dumb questions.
I looked to buy the train tickets online but would still have to get them from a 'Machine' at Waverly station and pay an extra 75p booking fee.
So I have decided to purchase the necessary travel documentation myself.
    Are these 'Machines' idiot proof?
Could I go and buy the tickets early than I need them, which is next Friday and use them on the day without incurring extra costs?
I also need a decent map app, I am not overly impressed with Google maps and I will need something to guide me through the hinterlands of Bearsden, I hope I do not need protection from the wildlife.

I use the Trainline app. Purchase a ticket with the app and just show my phone screen when needed.
Personally I like Maps. If I'm concerned about a data connection I will download the map tile for the area.

I have downloaded the directions to where I am going to my phone and yep I can open it and there they are. One thing though where the hell are they stored when I close the app as I certainly cannot find it. I have downloaded them again and added a shortcut to my homescreen but surely there is a simpler way?

If you buy tickets from one of the train operating companies and not someone like Trainline you won't pay booking fees.
The ticket machines aren't really set up for buying tickets for a future date of travel. They are really for buying tickets to travel on the same day or for picking up tickets booked online. If you want to buy a ticket in advance in person go to the ticket office at a station.

You don't store directions in the Google Maps app. You generate them on demand.

It turns out you can save them to your home screen which works nicely.

More and more cats are getting their own passports and their own credit cards. I remember back in the day when so few cats were able to travel independently, people used to stare at you like you're some kind of Martian. In time, Mr. Fraggle, it'll be second nature to you.

I came upon it purely by accident.

On the ticket front I spoke to a very helpful information desk guy who helped me out. I also had a look at the machines and came away a bit confused, there was a row of machines and one was bigger than the others. On looking at how to buy a ticket the price was double what I saw it for online, how can this be, I was about to go back to the desk when i tried the smaller machine and that was the price I expected.
I am assuming that the machines are different in some way but I could not see why apart from the size difference.
No matter I know what is required come Friday.
