I know that HD is transmitted as 1080i signal

But what is the transmitted resolution of an SD signal ?

Is it -Transmitted (received by box) as 576i and then upscaled according to box output res if neccesary.?
    or

Is it - Transmitted (received by box) as 1080i. And downscaled if non subsciber to HD.?

    Or something else ?

    Thanx.

P.S. The menus in 576i res are very blurred -anyway to correct this? (Using brand new -latest model box)

SD channels are transmitted in SD.

HD channels can broadcast SD content which is upscaled by the broadcaster.

Depending on the box configuration it or the TV will scale as required.

    Subscriptions are not relevant.

The HD and SD versions of the same channels are transmitted separately, any subscriptions for HD services will access those additional channels. It's a shame that Sky cling on to subscription for HD channels which are freely available on freeview now, I was hoping that freesat or free sky would be comparable.

The HD sub is for the HD channels that aren't on Freeview like ITV2 HD, ITV3 HD, ITV4 HD, C5 HD etc. They all get a kickback from Sky based on the number of HD subscribers.
