I want to transfer 2,500 MP3's to my HD5, I'm using automatic transfer which is going to convert them to ATRACplus 64.

The transfer time is saying that this is going to take 18 hours.

Is it safe to leave the HD5 connected to PC for this length of time? Would there be an issue with overheating etc.

    Thanks

Its the converting thats taking the time,

    Why convert?

As for the disc getting warm, i don't see how it should be a problem.

I'm converting to fit more on the HD5 plus take advantage of the prolonged battery life by using the ATRAC format as MP3's suck up more juice on playback.

As HD3 mentioned, it's the converting that takes the time. The actual transferring is minimal (in comparison), so the disc won't get too warm. I just left my HD5-H converting/transferring overnight and all is well.

I would suggest doing your tracks in batches though as SonicStage sometimes hangs on certain songs. Haven't figured out why it hangs, but usually when it does, I go back and transfer the individual song and it works fine. Then I can continue with my batches. Plus if you have to go somewhere, you can take your player with you between batches. Just my .02

    I would second that.

Maybe batches of 250 or 500.

The less you do in one go the better in my opinion though it obviously means more sessions.

    Thanks for the feedback

I had decided that batches are better so doing 500 at a time.

it is possible to do the conversion in sonic stage without connecting your HD5, then do the transfer separately, if you are worried about leaving unit connected -- can't see a problem doing that, though. Just an alternative.
