Transferring pics by USB

Hi, would anyone know why I can't transfer pictures from my USB stick (sandisc 8gb ) onto my iPad 3? It comes up with the message this USB requires too much power? Thanks.

Only certain USB drives work after iOS 4.2. Stick em on a sd card instead and use the sd slot

Make sure you name the folder DCIM though as it won't read that either
