Has anyone here ever attempted/completed a Tough Mudder event?

I was watching some "Furisous Pete" videos earlier and he had a video of him completing one with his gf - they look like a lot of fun/pain.

I don't think i am anywhere near the fitness needed, but would love to try one.

I have a mate who has registered for one this year, I might go to video him getting electrocuted as it looks hilarious!

I know what you mean though, need to have reasonable fitness to cover 12 miles in those conditions. You could always try a Spartan Sprint race, they are similar but only 3 or 4 miles...and without the electricity!

Tough Mudder is fantastic but it's a long hard slog. As said above, if you want to get a feel of what it's like, do a Spartan Sprint instead as its just a 5km course so relatively easy to get around and the obstacles aren't too hardcore although you'll still electrocuted and dunked in ice :D

We're doing one in September with a group of friends from the gym.

    Tough mudder is epic

We are due to do it again this year, will be doing the September Yorkshire one. Might see you there Desmo :D

It is a tough haul but worth it in the end. One of our team got knocked out by the electric charge and one suffered from a mild hypothermia and had to be taken out half way round (no body fat). But it was a good day. Training wise there were those that did and a couple that didnt. Those that didnt held the team back some which was a bit unfair but you cant leave a man behind. Id recommend getting ready for it at least, and having a reasonable fitness level.

For those of you training for Tough Mudder, there are a few exercise suggestions in this video:
Strength Training And Conditioning For Parkour 3

The exercises are all practical bodyweight exercises which can be done with little or no equipment. This type of training is ideal if you're going to be negotiating an obstacle course. There's also this, which is the previous video in the series :)

    Completed it yesterday...

    Epic

I cant walk today, but Im so proud that me and my team completed it. I already cant wait to do it again next year! It was much tougher than I think it would have otherwise been as I had to complete it through HARD hail (with VERY cold winds to match) and torrential rain, Id love to do it again in the sun!

I'm doing the North West event on the 6th October. Seems a long time off but it'll be on me in no time. Really need to ramp up the miles. Can't wait though.

Grangey - Be very proud of yourself fella. I've seen the videos and I'm nowhere near what kind of shape I need to be for competing in one. Hopefully that will not be the case next year.

In compensation though, I've registered to be a volunteer for this years London south Tough Mudder.

Did you get an early start time? They used to do a course clear up so if you're going too slowly you may not be able to finish. You're going to need to run at least half of it I would imagine.

Did tough mudder in Kettering this year and was impressed by the scale of it but not enough obstacles for nearly 12 miles. Tough guy to me is still the daddy for toughness.

Another shameless plug for my own race. Milton Keynes is now confirmed for 12th October at silver stone woodlands campsite www.rocksolidrace.com

Same course I did. I thought the same, not enough obstacles and too much flat out running.

Just got back from todays London South event as a volunteer and while I have some of the most impressive tan/burnlines in history, it was an awesome event. The sense of camaraderie is phenomenal and the obstacle I was marshalling (Fire Walk) was where a lot of people gained the motivation of others (myself included hopefully) to overcome their fear of jumping over the fire.

Will defo be there next year as a participant.
