I would like to add an 8" or 10" touch sensitive flatscreen TFT to my HTPC. Rather than having to switch on the real telly and live with the awful rendering of the Windows interface there, I'd prefer to have a, say 800x600 pixel image on the FTF next to the HTPC and then just point and click with my fingers.

Sort of like an oversized screen for a PDA, but without the PDA bit, of course. And nope, a "Microsoft Smart Display" or "Tablet PC" is not what I'm looking for.

Does anyone know of such a thing? Who makes them? How much do they cost? Where can they be bought?

Thanks in advance for any help :)

Well yes they do exist. We have 15" touch sensitive TFTs at work, its for our tills but they are essentially a pc. There are no obvious makers marks on it but I will have nose around tommorrow and report back.

    Hi,

I'm pretty sure that IIyama make touchscreen TFT units. IIRC the ones I found were 15" and 17". Dabs.com had them listed, not sure on their availibility though.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks cheapskate2003, that would be great :)

Thanks tonyb. 15" is probably going to be a wee bit big, but I'll have a dig through Ilyama's product catalog. Thanks you :)

Its a flim that you apply to any TFT or monitor to make it touch sensitive...

What you want is one of these beauties...

    http://www.xenarc.com/product/700y.html

...it's a 7" touchscreen TFT which runs at 800x480 and has a standard 15pin VGA and 9pin serial connection.

You'll have to import one from the States though.

I bought mine from eBay just a few weeks ago...shown in front of a 12" TFT screen.

    Yes, yes, yes :))

Uhmmm... I mean... YES! Both those suggestions are exactly what I was looking for! Thank you so much, gallus23 and loonatic.

I'm going to the States in a month, so maybe a wee bit of shopping is on the agenda! Thanks loonatic! :)

Whoa £279 + P&P for a 7" TFT! Yeh it's touch screen, and widescreen and looks pretty cool, but i've seen 15" TFT touchscreens on Ebay go for way less than that.

Neovo do a 15" XGA Touchscreen LCD for about 500/600 quid. Might be worth seeing if you can fit it, it is a damn fine looking monitor!
