Any one notice that the latest releases of a touch of frost on dvd apart from season 10 seem to be at the wrong aspect ratio. Up to season 5 they were shot in 4.3 and have been left like this. season 10 is in anamorphic wide screen and looks right on the money but season 7,8,9 seem to have been a 4;3 image and then zoomed in to fill a wide screen tv then put in anamorphic  . this has lead to tops of heads being chopped off and faces on close ups not looking right. Any one else noticed this. anyone got any info on this? :)

yep, I can second this. went out last week and bought the 3 remaining box sets and was totally hacked off that they've cock it up. had been waiting ages for them to come out and then they mess them up.....
maybe should contact them (like with the problem avengers box sets) and see if they are aware of the situation and what they propose to do about it.

Right had a look at season 6 episode on itv last night and it was in proper wide screen. I compared it to the dvd and the dvd is a mess. It is a 4:3 image zoomed in to make it wide screen.
Does anyone know what can be done? I have no Idear who to contact or wether anything was sorted out by the company that released them on dvd.

    David,

You need to contact the company who released the DVD's, which in this instance would be Granada Ventures and/or Universal.

    Universal can be contacted...
    Eddie Cunningham(Managing Director)
    1 Sussex Place
    Hammersmith
    London
    W6 9XS
    Telephone 0208 9105000

    Granada Ventures can be contacted...
    Granada Ventures
    4th Floor
    48 Leicester Square
    London
    WC2H 7FB

    Hope that helps!

Right I have actually spoken to someone at granada ventures a few minutes ago.
They are not aware of the problem and are saying that all the dvds have been quality controll checked,

The young lady I spoke to has suggested to send them a letter, which, now thanks to pooch I can, plus send them the offending dvds for inspection. They will then get back to me, and if the dvds are "faulty" replace them.

The problem I have with this is that I can just see them looking at them and not finding a problem, especially since no one else seems to have contacted them about it, and apart from Jasonx32 no one else has noticed this problem either.
    Any sugestions?

I had an email from carlton visual this morning saying that they will look in to the problem and get back to me next week once it has been looked at.
Any one else that has noticed this problem with thier frost dvds, please PM me and I will let you have a contact email address to pass on your coments to carlton. I do hope that I am not the only one that has/will contact them, the more people are intrested the more hope we have of something being done.
    David.

    Hi,

Have any of you tried doing internet searches for any "Touch Of Frost" fansites, that might also have encountered this problem, and/or any other websites in general, that also might have people who have bought these titles and got faults with them?

It might be worth looking into.

yep done that pooch, cant find any info about the problem at all, Its very strange. I am woundering if it only effects the first "print" of the dvds and that not many of them were actually made in the first place. I mean afterall its hardly a release of starwars proportions is it?

At least I have had an email back saying they will look into the problem.
If they get back to me and tell me that there is no fault though, I think a trip to london to see them in person with the offending dvds may be in order. I just dont want to be fobed of you know? I know for a fact that I am 100% right about the aspect ratio being wrong.

Heard back from the customer support people again. It is still being investigated and hopefully I will hear back soon. I have got a feeling however that nothing is going to come of it. I compared the episode "one mans meat" on dvd with what was shown on ITV3 yesterday. The ITV3 version was in true 16:9 widescreen with plenty of space around people and no ones head being cut of. The dvd version was as if the picture was being watched in zoom mode on a 4:3 broadcast and almost unwatchable in comparason.

I cant belive there is only a few people that A) own this on DVD, and B) have noticed the problem. I guess that most people that like this program enough to have bought it on DVD are not really people that care about aspect ratios ECT.

Hi all. I got this email to day about the aspect problem.

    >
    >Apologies for the delayed reply. In answer to your query the aspect
    >ratios of the DVD's for Sr 6 & 7 differed from the ITV 16:9 transmission
    >as we have to use masters which are cleared for UK Video release, these
    >were only available in 4:3. Therefore we converted these through an
    >aspect ratio converter from 4:3 to 16:9 for our DVD release. I'm sorry
    >to hear you are not happy with the quality, our DVD's do undergo
    >stringent quality checks, I can offer you a full refund to compensate
    >for your dissatisfaction.
    >
    >In regards to Ser 8 &9 we used 16:9 masters so there was no need to
    >convert, they were as broadcast.
    >
    >Hope this answers your questions
    >
    >Kind Regards
    >

    So there you go.
They have been decent enough to offer a refund if I want but it will break up the collection :( I dont really know what to do. I have sent an email back to them asking if there are any plans to relase them in the future in the correct ratio. I will let every one know the result.
    David.

Just to show you all what I am on about, take a look at the thumbnails below.

The dvd image is on the right, the tv image on the left.
You can claerly see that they have croped a 4:3 image to make it wide screen. :(
