I'm thinking of upgrading my 'all-in-one' DAV unit to a dedicated amp.. I have a question to ask before I do.

Whats the best audio format can I get from Toslink Optical/Coaxial.. I've read here on the AV fourms and other sites that the best is DTS EX /DTS NEO:6 etc..

I am looking at buying a marantz Amp and reviewing the manual it was talking about DTS 96/24 and PCM, Im confused by the PCM statement as I thought you could only get uncompress PCM via HDMI ? and that the Optical (at best) could only offer uncompressed PCM @ 2 channel.

If I'm right in thinking a 2 channel (uncompress PCM) source would come in via Toslink then using DTS NEO:6 on the amp would create a 6.1 sound ?
