I wonder if any XS34 users have had this problem.

I ordered this Tosh XS34 from RGB three weeks ago when 'ERR-16' occurred whilst doing a high speed dub to a DVD-R. I phoned Toshiba who advised me to send the unit back. It was quickly replaced a few days later.

However, I have experienced the same problem with the replacement!

Does this suggest a physical hard disk fault or due to fragmentation?

    Should I send this back?

    Any thoughts?

    Cheers

    Dave

I've not had that problem. Maybe the Dvd-R you are using is not liked by the machine?

Maybe, but the error is: 'Error reading HDD'. Perhaps the machine is having trouble writing to the DVD-R which in turn affects the reading of the HDD...?

Which DVD-Rs are recommended for use with this machine?

I currently use Bulkpaq and Maxell.
