    I got my XS32 yesterday and spent the evening working out how it works. It is connected to my Telewest Digital Cable STB.

    In the manual it shows a NICAM indicator on the display which should be illuminated when watching (or recording) a NICAM broadcast (if I read the manual correctly).

    I have switched NICAM to On in the DVDR setup menus.

    However, the NICAM indicator never illuminates. Am I missing something?

    It is connected to my STB as follows:

    Cable SCART 1 (marked VCR) -> DVDR AV2 (marked decoder)
    DVDR AV1 (marked A/V) -> TV SCART 1
    Cable SCART 1 (marked TV) -> TV SCART 2

    NICAM is the way stereo sound is transmitted on UHF analogue tv signals. You will only see it indicated if you have an aerial connected and you are tuned to a UHF TV channel with NICAM encoding.
