    Hi
I have a toshiba 2987DB television. It was a good t.v but for some
reason it now has a perminent green tint over it the brightness has
slowly started to increase (i.e I used to have it set at 65 but now it
is down to 20) and all the controls occassionally gets locked out so I
have to switch the t.v off then back on again to regain control.
Has anybody else had this problem? Or does anyone know what may be
causing the problem? If it is an expensive problem I may as well
start saving for a new t.v though I'd rather keep this one.
If anyone has any ideas then please let me know.
    Thanks all

From the problems which you say you are having with it, sounds like its the CRT which is begining to drop in emisions.

The tell tail signs are Gray scale tracking failing, IE biased to one colour, in your case Green!!

Sometimes the CRT will start to flash over (Static Discharge) and this can Lock the Micro up or cause it to do strange things.

    NOT GOOD

The CRT is very expensive so it time to start saving for that new 16:9 !!!

    Thank you for your help.
I had a feeling it was going to be something bad 80( I've only had
the thing 4 years oh well that's only £100 a year!
I remember that not long after I got it I noticed the brightness
seemed to flicker... perhaps I should have taken it back then. D'0h!
Again thank you for your suggestion.... time to start saving for a
    16:9 80)
    Peace

    Hi,

I had pretty much the same problem with the same tv and asked the same questions a while back....simple solution...go into the sevice menu..this will allow you to reduce the "greenyness"..... try reducing the GCUT a little....as for the brightness yes that does seem a bit harsh too at times and you can adjust most of these things in the service menu....BUT....please I cannot stress enough...write down all the settings first....! Once you start messing about with these settings you can seriously stuff up your tv.....its worth searching on google for more info and a list of all the abbreviations and their meanings......

to get into the service mode....press and release mute..then...presse and hold and press the menu button (the one located under the flap at the front of the tv)....this should bring up box with some letters....use the volume and channel up/down buttons to select...then switch the tv off to keep your changes...

    Have fun....

I have the same greenish flicker on my Toshiba RPTV which only happens occassionally but is quite noticeable. I've only had the set 2 months so does anyone think that this may lead to serious problems over tims?

Thanks for the service menu tips 8) Perhaps I can save myself a few
hundred quid! I will have a play around to see what I can do. It
sounds like I will be able to change the picture presets as the
contrast is set to 100 on them! My only problem now might be my
colour blindness ;0) Oh well I'll give it ago but goodness knows what
colours I might end up with. Hee! Hee! Good job I have the video
    essesials DVD.
    Thank you again
I'll go and see what I can do
    Peace
