    Hi there,

I've just got hold of a Brand New Toshiba SD 9500. ( region 2 only) And was just wondering if the player can do Pure PAL Prog Scan.

As I also have the SD900 and that has that horrid puesdo PAL ( yukk )

Also does anyone know how I can make it multiregion ?

    Cheers

Just heard from Toshiba, and they say that it only does NTSC Prog Scan. And it can't be multiregioned ( I'm sure it can )

I've replied to their mail and asked what is the point of selling the SD9500 in the UK, as Region 2 dvd's are PAL and so we would require PAL Prog scan.

I'll let you know what they say to that.

Looks like I'm going to have to sell this Brand New. Any one know how much I should ask for it ?

Oh and it's had the Firmware fix that was mentioned the the WHAT review.

    Cheers

You can have it multiregioned.. I have the 900e (the ower model) which is multiregion?

I did think it could do progscan for PAL.. not too sure what the main diff between the 900e and 9500 is then !

    Hi Matt,

Me too. This is what I got from Toshiba. It's a bloody joke and it shouldnt be allowed.

Thank you for your recent enquiry. Please find the information that you requested as follows:

Please find below the main differences between the SD900 and SD9500 DVD players. Other than the differences below the two models are very similar, however the SD9500 has a more up to date software.

The SD9500 is compatible with MP3 discs - the SD900 is not.
The SD9500 has no Scart sockets on the back - the SD900 has one.
The SD9500 has a black finish - the SD900 has a champagne finish.

So all that extra money just for MP3 playing. LOL !

    Cheers

Maybe you can get your money back and buy it from here:

    http://www.leconcepts.com/dvd_home.htm

Their 9500's are both Multiregion AND PAL progressive/NTSC progressive...

If you can't do that, have a look at for a hardware mod here:

    http://www.techtronics.com

There are also quite a few other people who will "mod" your player rather than having to sell it, as the 9500 is a brilliant DVD player. Have a look in the back of some of the home cinema mags for others...

Toshiba (like all DVD manufacturers) will always tow the licensing law line and say it cannot be done...

Yeh was just looking at techtronics, looks like they can do it all for £65 + the pickup and delivery.

Not too keen on it though.

Anyone know if anyone does home modding, where they will come round to your place and carry out the mod. I assume that this would be more expensive. Just don't really fancy sending this player off. Esp. after the horror stories i've heard about them above.

    Cheers

Don't know of any that come to your home...tbh most of them operate a pickup and return service - maybe you could take it to them personally for a "while you wait"...shame to get rid of such a good DVD player...did you not consider MR and PAL-P when you bought it??

The LE ones are PAL Prog and Multiregion though arent they ? Mines only Region 2. I guess I could put a post on the Classifieds and see if I get any interest.

yeah, but all they need to do is add 65 for the tech mod :)

Not everyone would be so cautious in order to get such a good player...I personally wouldn't think anything of getting them to mod one I had bought cheaply like you...I'd keep the player and get the mod, the player is very, very good

Jasonjo, your starting to twist my arm now. Is it really that much better than the SD900 ( which I have had for the past couple of weeks )

Can't really test the sd9500 as my Componant cables are phone and not BNC

Tested in composite ( yeh I know, worst possible picture, but it looked fantastic to be honest )

    cheers

Hmmm...best answered by a 900 owner who upgraded I guess...I tested the 9500 before I bought my Denon 3800 and was very impressed, only went for Denon looks wise and cheaper at the time - and you could MR/PAL-P it with a CDR.

I really loved the 9500 finish in black, especiallty the cool DVD loading mechanism :)

So I assume that the 9500 cannot be done with a cdr firmware update. Damn i'm gonna have to give this some serious thought.
