    Hi,

Ive shortlisted a few dvd players, namely -

    Arcam DV-88 + PS board
    Pioneer 2800

The third choice is the Toshiba SD900e which Ive seen advertised at a seemingly good £699. I have a Fujitsu plasma screen, and want to take advantage of the PS mode, so would appreciate any thoughts upon this player to help me make my decision.

    Regards

;) just ordered the tosh 900 from leconcepts for the price u mentioned. your shortlist was pretty much similar to mine, and i opted for the tosh. the price was a big factor, but also i was told by many people that there is not much better out there.

it is an exceptional player and at this price u should go for it, use the money you'll save on something else.

Also if u search this site the arcam can be a troublsome machine and u don't want to be blowin @ least 1300 on a player of that potential. hell the tosh does pretty much everything at nearly 1/2 the price!!

will update this forum when my player arrives (hopefully this week!)

Thanks, Im going to order one tomorrow most likely. Its a true progressive scan player so Im told - can anyone confirm? Also, are there any problems viewing RCE DVD titles, as that could be a deciding factor for me.

Save yourself £150 and get the Philips 962SA multi region NTSC & PAL progressive scan player for approx £550 from www.hivizone.com , it's a fantastic player although I have to say so is the Toshiba SD900E. The Arcam is no way worth £1300 or whatever it is these days, ridiculously overpriced.

    Cheers

Have my 900 connected to my 50" Plasma and can confirm absolutely its ps capabilities.

Bought my unit from LEC and have no problem at all with RCE titles.

All in all I'm delighted..you can't go wrong at this price. The combo of screen and Tosh are blinding!!

    regards

    :D

JSW, Why don't you use component for both display devices? You're losing some picture quality with the S-video connection.

    j3t,

A word of caution. The so-called PAL PS abilities of the SD900 are not quite what they appear. The player downconverts PAL to NTSC in order to give a PS signal but it ain't up to much. There are some odd artefacts in the picture. NTSC PS is superb.

LeConcepts advertise their SD900's with PAL PS but I don't think anyone has confirmed if this is proper PAL PS or just the plain vanilla downconverted variety. Even so, don't let that put you off an excellent player. And yes, I do own one.

Aware of that m8 but the pic quality on the tv is still superb through svid scart, I could use RGB scart but thats taken by the cable box.

I watch DVD's on the projector so the conection to the TV dosn't matter really.

Just need to get an rgb to svid converter to stick cable through the pj now.

    Thanks
    Bry

    I see.

What you really need then is an RGB to component converter. That way your cable will look gorgeous.

The concept already existed but only the Germans could pull it off:

    See here.
