...and the missus is not very happy about it as we were about to watch the last few episodes of Lost S2.

Any ideas what has caused it to stop playing R1 discs? Can it be switched back on or do we have to wait until we can get a firmware update?

    It requires a firmware mod.
Sometimes they seem to lose the previous upgrade and it needs done again.

You can find the file you need at
    http://filecities.com/files/1226/My Documents/sd220e.rar

you will need winrar to unzip it and then you need to burn a CD from the image file (cue bin)

Instructions are included. I have used this file on several 220's and it works fine.

Cheers for the reply. Once I calmed down and switched out of PanicMode I did a bit of searching. Suffice to say we have now watched one episode of Lost and have MR ability again.

All the sites that mention this firmware hack say to use Nero Burning Rom. I downloaded it and could not get it to do the business. Three times I had to switch the PC off at the wall so badly had it crashed.

Eventually used Roxio Disc Copier which was on my PC the whole time. Job done in a few minutes.

The file is now here: MEGA

File includes instructions, but I will paste them below as well:

    - Unpack it using WinRAR
    - Start Nero Burning ROM, click File, click Burn Image..., select the .cue file, click open, disable 'Determine maximum speed' and 'Simulation', at write method select Disc-at-once (this is very important), click write.

    - Push setup on the SD220e remote control, select under picture:
    PAL/Auto: Auto. Push setup again.
    - Open your SD220e disc tray and insert the CD.
    - Close the disc tray.
    - The disc will be read and recognised as a VCD, you'll see the image on
your television flash and after a short while you will not see any image
at all. Wait about 10 seconds and take out the CD.
    - Your player is now region free.

I personally have not tested this, upgrading your firmware is done at your own risk!!
