I want to buy a new DVD player. Toshiba products have always proved reliable for me in the past so I'm thinking of getting either the SD110E or SD210E. Is the picture quality any different between these two models? If not, I'll go for the SD110E. I've seen a multi-region version of it advertised for £190 (delivered) at Upgrade Heaven. Is this a good price or is there somewhere I could get it cheaper?

I've never dealt with Upgrade Heaven before. Are multiregion DVD players any good (ie. do they have any problems with any discs) and are their products UK models?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I bought an SD210 from DVD Magic last month for £199. That includes delivery & a multi region, RCE compatible, macrovision disabled mod.

The machine is fantastic! The reason I went for the SD210 is the fact that it has componant video outputs and it plays all my R1 discs (RCE as well) perfectly.

I was going to get it from Techtronics, but I heard bad stories about them, so I had a look at DVD Magics site and, hey, they were £25 cheaper. They are very helpful on the phone with any query or point you have with them and they promised me a player in 3 days. And 3 days it was! Good service!

I own the SD110, I haven't seen the 210E so it is hard to compare. But the 110 is a great little machine, I reckon the picture quality is better than my Pioneer 525. I use the component out connected to my Toshiba 28ZD06 TV. The component output compares favourably with RGB via the SCART.

The only difference between the 110 and the 210 is mp3/cdr/cdrw playback, optical output plus a coupleof slight cosmetic differences.

Gernerally I am very happy with it and think it's a great buy..

Thanks for the help. Do DVD Magic have a website, and if so, what's the address?

I have just been there and they have put their prices up! £219 for a SD210 & £185 for SD1100, but they is still good prices for the product you get!

No the mods are not the same unfortunately. Richersounds etc don't remove macrovision (if you want this)

My criteria for the toshiba 210 player were

    Silver colour
Multiregion
Macrovision removed
I could only find two that provided this:
DVD magic
Techtronics

I went for Techtronics as there chips are supposed to be very good
£224 delivered. Which I ordered and will hopefully be arriving this week

    hth

Thanks for your input. I am also after Macrovision disabled for 210E.
In this forum someone asked a question whether they should buy from DVD Magic or Techtronics and so many people said that the customer service of Tectronics is awful and DVD Magic is much better.

    Cheers

I paid £199 from DVD Magic as I also wanted the above features including the RCE bit but did not want to risk Techtronics.
No problems.

    Hi,

I and perhaps others would appreciate if people who have bought the above Player from DVD Magic or Leading Edge Cocepts or any other supplier can provide their experiene(Customer Service) with them and How good their modification was.

I bought a SD210 from DVD Magic last month for £199 inc mod & del. They said it would take 3 days, and it did take 3 days! On my doorstep at 7:45am, fully modified, just like they had promised!! Very polite and helpful on the phone & could answer all my questions.

I can play all my R1 discs (to play RCE you have to play a non RCE disc first then take it out and play the RCE one, but this is Toshiba trate)
Picture & sound are bloody fantastic for the money
I can even record disc to VHS (should I wish to)
Play MP3 files
One thing I love is I can crop a 2.35:1 image to fill my 16:9 TV using the ZOOM

The only neg points are that...
DVD Magic have just put up their prices
The Silver SD210 is a very bright colour, and REALLY stands out from my other components
The discs tray is rather noisy when loading/unloading discs

But these are very minor neg points!

Well I just called DVDMagic (around 6:40pm on a Friday). I didn't really expect to get an answer, but I did, apparently they have the phone forwarded to their mobiles out of business hours (don't harrass them though or they might stop ).

I ordered my 210 from them and the guy said he's going to be going somewhere tomorrow that's not too far from me and if he can he'll drop it off to me.

    Now THAT'S service!
