Hello all. My laptop has decided not to get past 'shutting down' when I try to start it. Possibly it didn't shutdown properly yesterday. Whatever, I can't do anything with it except reach the 'shutting down' screen. It responds to nothing but the mouse pointer. Any ideas?

Have you tried starting it in 'safe mode'
Google 'Starting Toshiba Satellite C50 in safe mode' and see how to do it

In safe mode you should be able to see your security program or MalwareBytes if you have it installed
Run these in safe mode to remove any Virus or Trojan etc
Then reboot and hopefully the laptop will be back in business

Hello Knox. Thank you for responding. The problem was that I couldn't get to the desktop. I say 'was' because I have a functioning laptop now! What I think may have happened is that when I shut down yesterday there were a large number of updates to download and I mistakenly didn't have it plugged in so it must have run out of battery before the updates had completed. Much embarrassment when I left it charging this morning and it sorted itself out! I won't forget that in a hurry!! Again - thank you.
