    Hello to all,

The timer record system for the RDXS34 is easily to use and set up - but once activated should the unit remain on after the timer record program has completed, i.e. .....

unit programed - via maybe videoplus
system turned off - placed in standby
system turns on - records program as expected
    timer program completes
system stays on - unlike old VCR technology were unit turns itself off

    Is this normal RDXS34 behaviour?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Richard

No, the unit returns to the state it was in before the recording begun.

This is optional behaviour on the XS34. If I recall correctly you can, from the quick menu while executing a programmed recording, choose "Continuous power on". Then it will stay on after the recording finished.
Maybe you enabled this by mistake?

I assume that it is the same as with the XS30.

If the unit is on when the timer recording starts then the unit will remain on after the timer has finished recording. If you want it to switch off after the timer recording has finished then from the quick menu select auto power off.

Similarly, as described above, if you start watching something from the unit after a timer recording has started, and don't want the unit to switch off automatically once the timer recording has ended then select continuous power on form the quick menu.

Hello everyone, thanks for your help and pointers, I guess I need to check my progs via quick menu or read the mammoth manual to try to understand what I need to do properly.

If I remember correctly, the quick menu option "Continuous power on/Auto power off" is valid also for intensive tasks, like dubbing/creating a DVD (like "shutdown when finish" on PC's programs).
