I've had an RDXS34 for a few months now.
All good stuff but I find it doesn't play about 50% of DVD's I try in it.
It seems to be highly fussy, even with brand new films or programmes. They all play fine in other DVD players I have but just not on the RDXS34.

Does anyone else have this problem with their machine?
Does anyone know of it - as a known problem on this model?
    Can anything be done?..

    Many Thanks..

Not a problem with my XS34. I do sometimes have the odd disc that does not play, but a wipe of the disc usually solves the problem. Mine is only about 5 weeks old however.

*Going to watch this thread in fear now*

I've owned said unit for a day and so far it's played everything I've thrown at it.
However I've only thrown 3 pre-recorded DVD's in its general direction so far.
It was bought as a replacement for both my VCR and my 18 month old DVD Player so I hope it doesn't have any known issues.

Relax Stoofa, I've had mine since April, haven't had a problem with a single title and haven't read anywhere of this being a particular issue. As you can see with all makes of recorders and PVRs, it's pot luck on getting a glitch or buggy machine.

Playing prerecorded DVDs has to be the least challenging of the machine's duties so if I was getting problems with even 5% of titles I'd get on the blower to the supplier and remind them of the Sale of Goods Act. Alternatively give Toshiba customer services a call.

Thank you all for your replies. It clearly must be my machine.
Much of the time now I have to plug in another dvd player to my telly just to watch some of our fav films!!

Thanks again for the info..I'll give Toshiba a ring...

The Tosh does not play DVD+R, only DVD-R. Is this your problem?

Absolutely right according to the spec sheet. Though it might be worth mentioning that I have never had a problem playing any of my +R and +RW discs, whether a product of my old Philips recorder or my Pioneer PC writer. It also plays +R DL discs.
