Has anyone got any views on the Toshiba RDXS30 DVD recorder - quality, compatability, picture, sound etc.

I've read a few online reviews and it seems like the one to go for.

    Thanks
    James

Biggest problem is that it doesn't record an RGB signal.

But it records in s-video and gives excellent results.

Because it doesn't record in rgb it does get a bashing on these forums but all I can say is I've had mine since June and am delighted with it! Interested to see it rated higher than the mighty Pany DMR-E100 in one mag this month.

That may be so, but a lot of users will have sky or freeview boxes with no s-video output, which means buying an rgb->svideo convertor, a new freeview box, upgrading to sky+, or making do with composite.

Agreed bobones. The Toshiba is a definite no go if you have a standard Sky box.As this has no s-video output, recordings made on the Toshiba, and Pioneer recorders, and JVC too, would rely on ghastly composite.Better than vhs of course, but a serious waste of the recorder. If you have Sky+ the s-video output will suffice. But the lack of RGB writes off the advantages it has over the Panny recorders

check out the other thread I have on this player

    I am very impressed

If you have a standard sky box you can buy relatively cheaply a RGB to S-Video converter

However, sky+ is the muts nuts quite frankly. It is now free subs if you subscribe to one premium channel and refurb boxes are now on offer for £99 with £1 installation. Bargain. :smoke:
