    Hey all,

I am leaning towards purchasing this HD recorder. I would like to hear peoples opinions and experiences of this machine before I invest.

What is the quality of bought dvd playback like?
Could the machine replace a dedicated dvd player with ease?
    Is the fan that noisy?
Has anyone hooked the machine up to an AV amp?
Are the on screen menus easy to navigate?
Is it easy to record something?
Can you pause and rewind live TV?

    Any comments gratefully received

Had one for a couple of months now. In answer to you questions:

As good as my Pioneer 545. (In fact better, because the XS34 has component)

Yes, but the multi region mod does not cope with RCE.

No, but neither is it silent.

    Yes.

    They are for me.

    Yes

    Yes

I'm almost 100% sure that no one here has ever bought one of the XS34 nor has ever posted any previous comments about it, in multiple threads.

    Sorry we can't help......

Quality of playback is excellent in m opinion.

Yes I'd happily use it to replace a stand alone dvd player.

It is noisy but doesn't bother me in the slightest. All down to personal tolerance I guess.

Not tried hooking up to an amp though I have a cheapie 5:1 surround sound system plugged in which works fine.

Menus are ok, but it is quite a complicated machine to use at first, in my opinion. For the first week or so I had to refer to the manual before doing anything.

Basic recording is straightforward, only gets harder if you start changing he quality etc.

    Yes you can time shift.

Alll in all I'd definately recommend it, at under £300 it's very good value.

Thanks for all your advice :)

Is the Toshiba available in multi-region and if so does it have NTSC Progressive Scan?

    Cheers
