Can't find info on this on Toshiba web site or press. Is this machine the same spec as the RD-XS32 with bigger HDD?
If it is surprised to see it for only £20 more on some websites.
I'm looking for a recorder to work well off sky so particularly want it to have RGB input.

Which would you recommend, or any alternatives (max budget around £300)

for £300 thats all your gonna get if you want a 160gb hard drive unless you want to consider the liteon 5045 which is down to £299(has loads of bugs!!). you can get the panasonic E95 for £320. As far as im aware the new XS34 is exactly the same apart from the hard drice upgrade...but i dont own one so can not be sure.

look on pricerunner for an idea

    good luck

    Hi,

I would recommend the RDXS34 personally.

I currently have the RDXS30 (60 GIG HDD) and it gives a fantastic picture
Recording at 3.00 mbps (give about 36 hours).

I have analogue NTL Cable with Panasonic 32inch Wide Screen 100Mhz TV.

I brought the Pioneer 920H 250 GIG HDD 1075.00 pounds but I hated it.
TV quality was not as good as the RDXS, upping to about 4.5 mbps gave a
Worse picture then Tosh at 3 mbps. Also Tosh was a lot nicer to use,
Once you have out a little time in to learn how to use.

I regretted my decision buying it and not waiting for new Tosh RDXS34.
Shop would not refund so I sold on eBay a lost just over 400 pounds.

Go for the Toshiba RDXS34, lots of places have them in stock, you will
Get it within a few days. I have had the RDXS30 for 20months and it has
NEVER given me any problem, I just works !!!!!!!.

    Hope this helps.

160 GB HDD instead of 80 GB.
Other than that, I don't think there is much (any?) difference.

I have an RDXS34, received last Thursday. From what I have read on these forums about the RDXS32, the 34 is the same as the 32 but with 160GB HDD. I think it might have slightly better configuration of Satellite/Freeview channels in the menu system, and there seem to be more code options given for the IR changer dongle-thingy, which I have been using to change channels on my Nokia Freeview box - seems to work better than the original remote :) .
I can confirm that it has no Freeview and no EPG but thats as I expected and so far I am pretty pleased with the RDXS34. I'm no AV aficionado, but from my point of view the Picture Quality looks excellent at the SP mode, but I havn't experimented much yet with lower (or higher) bit-rates.

ScoobyM, can you tell me where you purchased it from please. Everybody appears to be sold out.
Oh and don't these machines look very different in appearance? I hope so, the XS32 was one ugly beast.IMO

    Hi,

Got my RDXS34 today looks a very sexy bit of kit !!!!!!!!!!.

    Question.

When in standby, the clock is very bright. I know when you switch the machine on you can hit the dimmer button which is fine. Then when I switch off goes back to bright.

How to I make the time dimm in standby, looked in setup but could not find anything.

    Appart from the 10/10

    Hi azzo,

Got mine from 'Leading Edge Concepts'.

    http://www.leconcepts.com/dvd_home.htm

£329 maybe a few quid more expensive than advertised elsewhere, but I think they had them first and certainly got them out the door very quickly. Couldn't fault the service, and when I just checked back, they still have stock (which some of the lower price sellers do not seem to have).

    Also these machines are MultiRegion.

    cheers

Ordered from cheap electricals, will receive tomorrow hopefully. Not worried about multi-region.
Will let you know how I get on.
    Many Thanks

    Heya,

How is the start up time? Very fast? What about fan noise? I'm looking for a quiet machine.

    Cheers

Yes would like to know about the boot up time if you leave a disk in the dvd tray it seems to take forever to boot, as the HDD boots then it loads the disk, very frustrating, without a disk in the tray it's so much quicker.

Can I ask how you record programs?

Is it via a menu which lists all the programs and you press a button to schedule it for recording ( like an electronic program guide epg ) ?

If it does have epg, does it only present you with analogue channels ie bbc 1 & 2, itv, channel 4 and 5 ?

    Thanks

    Hi,

You have to set the timer like

channel, start time, end time ect.

For channel select 1 -6 for my setup, 1-5 and channels bbc1, bbc2, itv etc
and channel 6 for my STB (Analogue Cable)
