I recently purchased a Toshiba RD-XS32. I have been recording to the hard disk without any problems. I put a TDK -RW disk in and tried to format it. A screen was displayed saying that the disk was write protected. Any ideas why this should occur. The green DVD-RW is on.

With DVD selected (not HDD) press "quick menu" and one of the options is "disk management". It should then give you format options. If the -RW has been used before you may have to select "unfinalise" before being able to reformat.

Make sure you only use 2x DVD-RW for XS32. Using Verbatim 4x, I got the same message. No problems with TDK 2x, though. The disks are being sent back to SVP for refund.

I have the same problems with Verbatim -RW 4X. They don´t work at all!

So maybe it´s the 4X that confuses the Toshiba somehow?
    Spread the word then.

The RD-XS32 will not work with ANY 4x -RW discs. You need to use 2x.
