Toshiba RD-XS32 fan noise

    I picked up an XS32 on Saturday morning and having played with it for a day or so I am rather disappointed with the fan noise, which is clearly audible from a few feet away. A bit like having a PC next to the TV.

    I would be interested to know if anyone has tried:

    - disconnecting the fan
    - fitting a resistor in series with the fan to slow it down
    - running with the fan disconnected and the lid off - is the disk noisy?
    - any other method of reducing the noise output

    There's a thread on this that's about 2 weeks old (an idea for the fan noise). The quick answer is fitting a resistor/thermistor works well at cutting noise but the machine generates quite a lot of heat so its not clear cut that it's sensible to cut the level of cooling.
