Branding a plasma PictureFrame would be like talking about a new four wheeled Ford Focus. It goes without saying, plasmas are expected to look like that.

The PictureFrame concept is aspirational has it pretends to look like a plasma head on.

Had a quick butchers at the new issue in Cannon Street Station - 'kin train was cancelled!
Picture Frame 2 got a drooling review. My first thoughts were that it looked quite tasty - black gloss tv frame, silver open stand, glass shelves and silver speakers(along bottom edge of tv and external). It could verge on tacky when seen in the flesh though. Definitely not as subtle as Picture Frame 1.
Some other bits i can remember:-
    Pal prog was not mentioned.
    Not DPL 2
Latest iteration of the Active Scan technology (Active Vision) - 32MB buffer.
    No 'Pixel Plus' type technology.
Sound is better than some AllInOne systems the reviewer has recently seen.
    Still Only 1 RGB scart!
Some geometry problems were noted - no change there then!
    RRP £1800

    Progscan recomended for NTSC DVD.

Does it mean no PAL progscan? The article does not specify.

I bought a 32ZP18P 16 months ago and it is great. If I were ultra critical my only complaint is that when manually switching to "wide" mode to watch, say, a widescreen video i.e. something that is not anamorphic, then later going back to TV viewing, this seems to upset the automatic switching - widescreen TV channels wont kick-into widescreen automatically. The only way I've found to cure it is to switch off the TV and Sky box and then switch back on TV first, then Sky, set to BBC1 or another widescreen channel. That corrects it.

Picture and sound quality-wise, it's near enough perfect as far as I'm concerned.

Manual and info now available on Tosh's site. Contrary to the review in What Video, it appears the ZP38s have 2x RGB enabled SCARTs:

    EXT1: RGB/Composite In
    EXT2: RGB/Composite In
    EXT3: S-Video/Composite In/Out
    EXT4: Component In
    EXT5: S-Video/Composite In

Note: EXT2 now fixed In (not In/Out but EXT3 is now In/Out) and no longer carries S-Video. Front S-Video/Composite connectors are now a separate EXT5 instead of sharing EXT3.

Also added an extra Audio Out phono pair (Surround Variable).

ZP38 is a couple of mm bigger in each dimension but a few kg lighter than ZP18. Manual briefly mentions NTSC progressive in but nothing about PAL PS in so I guess it isn't there.

Colour temperature setting has been added. Picture tilt is again only present for 36" model.

The new issue of What Hi-Fi claims it's PAL proggressive capable, they'll have a full review next month. They are wetting themselves over it.

Aaaaggghhh I phoned Tosh last week before buying a zd26 and asked if any of their TV's had a 2 RGB sockets. I was transfered between several departments and then assured that none of their TV's had this feture.

Booooooooo!!! No Pal prog unfortunately. Just got my reply from Tosh:

Thank you for your recent enquiry. Please find the information that you
    requested as follows:

The Picture Frame 2 TVs have the Progressive Scan Mode but only for NTSC
    pictures.

The only Toshiba TVs which will accept a PAL progressive scan picture
signal is the plasma screens. This is because they work more like a
computer monitor than a TV and their normal mode of operation is
    progressive scan.

The pdf files in Toshibas website are basically the one page ad and the two page article from "What Video - May Edition"

They corrected the review from print to aknowledge the 2 RGB scarts.

What is the use of surround out R+L (variable) and R+L fixed line-out RCA sockets? Does this enhance 5.1?

I was asking in Comet at the weekend about it, It's nt actually in stock in the stores but is listed on there computers and priced at £2000.
The guy said they'll probably wait untill the Originals are sold before putting them out on the floor

Kerraig, rather than take the plunge and get the vcr and dvdplayer thrown in?

Do JL price match with such largesse?

I've just learned a harsh lesson about taking the plunge. Bought a Panny 36" from an internet retailer. Wasn't happy with the thing and had to go to court to get my money back. I'm gonna be particularly careful this time.

JL won't price match against an online retailer, but some clever hunting/haggling can save you a fortune.
