What do you think wins in sound and picture quality stakes.

Budget range: Toshiba 220e or pioneer 444.

Mid range: Toshiba 510e or pioneer 636.

These are the choices I was faced with recently. I ended up getting the 510 from dvdplayers.co.uk and although I have no doubt the 510 is an excellent DVD, in hindsight perhaps I should have bought the 220.

The 220 is only a few weeks old, it has more picture features and it was about £100 cheaper. The thing that stopped me getting the 220 was that I'd heard it was quite noisy when playing discs, which is something I can't stand. The 510 is dead silent. Then again, I've also heard the 220 is silent, so maybe that was just a stupid rumour about it being noisy. Anyway, the Pioneers are a little lacking in features although they are good DVDs all the same.
