" TOKYO, January 4 /CNW/ - Toshiba today brought the wide ranging
capabilities of HD DVD to the desktop PC with the announcement of a standard
height HD DVD drive able to read and write to HD DVD and to standard DVD and
CD discs. Sample shipments of the new drive, SD-H903A, are scheduled to start
    this month.

The new SD-H903A integrates a blue-violet laser diode that can read and
write to HD DVD-R discs and that offers support for high-density HD DVD-ROM
discs, including high definition movie and video images. The drive also offers
all the functionality of a super multi-drive, with high performance,
high-speed read and write to all flavors of standard DVD and CD discs.

The new drive takes full advantage of the shared physical structure of HD
DVD discs and standard DVD discs, which allows it to read and write to HD
DVD-R discs, to read the diverse line-up of discs in the HD DVD-ROM disc
family, including twin format disc and combination discs, and to read and
write to standard DVD and CD discs, using an optical pick-up head with only a
    single objective lens."

just hope it's cheaper than the current crop of BD writers that cost a fortune (to say it writes 20Gb less it should be!)

1x though, may have to wait for the 2nd generation on this!

just need a way for PowerDVD to play BD AND HD-DVD rather than having to choose as we do now!

I thought the latest versions could play both now?

Not at the same time. When installing, the software either installs as a BR or a HD-DDVD player... or at least it use to.

I've decided to just use the 360 for now and least the dust settle for a while, but I was thinking about this before. (I know very little about PC's... like most things. :D ) But...Do you not get an option to re-download the program when you purchase online? In which case can you not partition the HDD, install once with one connected, then swap over and install again with the other?

    Or even two HDD's

    ???

All we need now is 50Hz support in the Desktop players so we can burn our HDV material to HD-DVD-R and play the discs back.
