You probably connected it through Optical which means your receiver decodes the audio stream as DTS. For Dolby Digital Plus/Dolby True HD etc you need to connect it either through HDMI or Analog 5.1 ;)

Just watched Batman begins on my new Toshiba HD-E1 & I've never seen anything like it! Awesome, blew me away! Checked out Lady In the Water & The Thing as well, again they both looked fantastic! Not forgeting the sound of which is dts bitstream but again I've never heard surround sound like it!
Can't wait to be off work & get a good watch on.

I didn't think you could get DD+ or True HD on the E1 via 5.1 outputs?

The E1 does not have 5.1 analogue outputs. You can only get DTS HD DD+, Dolby TrueHD via HDMI. That is to say the audio is decoded within the player and output as PCM to an amplifeier/Receiver which can decode audio via HDMI 1.1. The EX-1 will have 5.1 analogue outputs though.

A quick question. How long does it take from pressing the 'on' buton, to when the film menu comes up? Thanks :)

Got mine yesterday afternoon; since it was cold in the TNT van, I waited until late to unbox it.

I've had a quick look at King Kong and Smallville Season 5 and the picture quality is incredible. It's the first HD material I've played on my 50" Pioneer plasma.

I also tried Stormbreaker DVD and that look good too.

I can't wait now for tonight when I will watch MI3.

Has anyone who has been fortunate to get there Hd-E1 tried it with Sd Dvd's...I have one on order from Hifi Bitz and am planning on selling my Pioneer 868I Dvd player...just a bit concernrd my Sd Dvd collection outnumbers my Hd Dvd collection by about 200 to 1...the 1 being my only Hd Dvd (King Kong)!
The 868 pq is superb and I would not part with it lightly i am also a bit concerned at using optical in place of i link!

I'm keeping my Pioneer 868 for my multi-region collection & i will not part with it! As for your optical worries, don't! The sound via the E1's optical even by way of dts bitstream, is awesome.

    It all sounds very exciting!
    Daft question of the day.
I know nothing about HD DVD's - yet.
Are these new European machines OK for playing ALL HD-DVD's
    or are they regionalised?

    Henry.:lease:

According to people on the German hi-fi forum, theres a small usb-cardreader included in the box.

Can any buyers confirm this for UK as well.??

    Thanks Noggin,
Does that apply to the SD DVDs or this that part regionalised?
Is HD DVD better than Sky HD?

    Henry.

Hi Henry, standard DVD's are region locked (theres no multiregion hack yet), but HD-DVD's are not region locked and can be played from anywhere in the world.

IMO, HD-DVD is better than SkyHD :)
