Went crimbo shopping today in my town of southampton like i do every weekend with the girlfriend and they have diffrent shows and displays every week on the ground floor outside of the john lewis etc, last week was sky HD and lotus cars this week to my amazement there was a very large booth saying toshiba HD DVD next to a xbox 360 show centre 
..!!
so i walked on over to this fairly large TOSHIBA stand where there were 3 reps standing outside, i walked round the side where the opening to the display was and.... WOW There was a up and running uk spec HD E1 hooked up to a couple of diffrent lcd's with a sofa to sit on to relax in a blacked out room they mocked up, this is it i thought to myself this is what we have all been waiting for
i watched a few mins of the disc they were playing and it looked very very nice indeed ,and the player itself looked very sweet it was playing various sequences from miami vice batman begins etc serenity the usaul HD dispaly discs.
I have been waiting for the XE1 since i pre ordered it way back with amazon for £504 i told the reps this, the reps were pretty clueless to be honest , which is expected they were only promo staff, and being the av buff that i am i was telling them things and they had no idea what i was on about.
But one thing that they new that i did not was release dates , and god on this forum this has been the talk for weeks now, and with great confidence as i was given a glossy brochure with the dates of both players including detailed pictures and specs which we all know of anyway , the e1 is due in 13 days time and the XE1 IS defo being released first week of the new year and for all of you lucky ones that ordered the E1 you should have it shortly in time for xmas But i dont mind waiting for the new as i would like the XE1 for the 1080p output for my sony X series tv.
So anybody that wants to see this stand and can get to southampton its in our big shopping centre in west quay ground floor, you cant miss it..
Even tho i had my sky HD installed on monday and as good as that is im still not satisfied and need my XE1 now damn it i have 20+ HD-DVD's sitting here , , oh well not long.
