Hi, I notice we have a thread for issues, is it possible for a thread for the people who have bought them and haven't had any problems.I'm considering buying one at the weekend (if I can find one) and it would be nice to see the ratio of good and duff players.

    Thanks:thumbsup:

Just an thought , might be useful if people mentioned where they bought them, might show a pattern to has a bad batch.

I had a problem with the 1st disc I played but I think it was the player being very cold after delivery, the same disc and 5 others have played fine since.

Bit the bullet and got one from Comet in Aintree, near Liverpool; said they had 5 in stock. They had it running a demo disc (Greek Holidays) Athens and Islands, looked superb, couldn't get them to price match DIXONS tho'.:( So tonight I'll be playing, what's the best way of connecting it ,I'll have the supplied HDMI lead,I already have an optical lead and I don't want to waste any time, do I? :D
Now then, what's it to be Superman Returns, Chronicles of Riddick, Doom or Batman Begins?

    I'll be back !!

Just wanted to add that the manual says it will play DVD-RW.

I can confirm it will also play DVD+RW.

I spoke to one of the employees in there about the player and he didnt have a clue. I asked if I could have a demo of a hddvd film. he replied that it only came with the demo disc. I then asked if he could put an sd film in and show me the upscaling capabilities. He replied that it only came with the demo disc! Gave up at that point. NOT very well advertised. I had to scratch around to find it.

Bit of an anti climax really, can't say I'm bowled over by the picture, set the player/tv to 720p connected with free HDMI lead and optical to amp.
Sound on DTS is very good, but it was very good on my Sony 725 d (I think) , d'ya think I've missed something, or is it because it's DLP Sagem and ONLY 720p? Discs sampled, Chronicles of Riddick, Doom, Superman Returns & Batman Begins.

    Cheers

I think you've missed something. Despite what some might say, 720p should be plenty good enough to see the difference.

Riddick is one of the best out there - Doom and SR I have mixed feelings about.

Spent all day trying to order from the Atlantic Shop without success - I'm wondering whether they'll bang the price up from £330 5 minutes before it comes online.

Anyway, popped into Comet on the way back from work, initially couldn't see any of the 4 players they had in earlier in the week, but then noticed the 'Greece' demo playing with a few players stacked up behind the display. The demo was very impressive IMHO.

I then found the most junior looking member of staff I could to check whether they'd price match Dixons and he said yes!! Passed him my printout of the current £395 price and mumbled something along the lines of it was definitely a store price, then sat as he phoned somebody else to confirm that they'd pricematch. Amazingly it was still go!!

He asked to meet me at the counter, stood there sweating for about 8 minutes, but no need for alarm, he just couldn't find them. So away I walked with an HD-E1 for £390 (includes 10% of the price difference).

Initial impressions are that it looks rather sleek in black, quite large but slimmish and nicely angular. As for the picture quality.....holy cow!!!.....actually I've no idea as i've not got any HD-DVD's yet, will have to get back to you on that one.

I think the retailers who have been offering super low prices will be the last to receive any stock - it is in Toshibas interests to keep prices high as long as possible and at least until after the introduction of HD-EX1.
