Toshiba film offer?

Hi all.
I'm wanting to go dual format.
I was going to pick up the E1 but with the 5 film promo being announced from Toshiba I don't know if to wait for this to start or not.
Does any one know when this will start and what films you are likely to be able choose from.

Cheers

I phoned up Tosh today but they couldn't tell me when it would start. I would think it will be soon as they don't want to lose the initiative in the format war.

300 in HD is great, it's worth the wait ;)

As a Blu Ray owner, I'm waiting for the offer too so that I can get a HD-DVD player and watch The Thing in HD :)

Awesome film. The Things horrible noises are excellent in DD+. And the HD transfer brings every disgusting slimy detail to life too. Not one to watch with the missus that's for sure:rotfl:

Glad to hear that The Thing is a great transfer, It's one that I will be getting on HD. I wouldn't mind King Kong but I've been told it's not the extended cut ( anyone know if this is true ).

I must admit that HD-DVD has got a load of movies. That as a Blu-ray owner I've being wait to see if they would come to Blu soon, But this offer from Tosh' means going dual is the only logical thing to do.

King Kong is the theatrical cut. It's an awesome transfer but i'd be the least surprised person in the world if a newer version with a lossless soundtrack and loads of extras comes out in the next year or so. As it stands it's bare bones.

I think I'll wait for the all singing and dancing one.
Just wish Tosh would give us an idea of the films it will incude in this offer and a start date.

I don't think there is an annouced date or list of titles yet, at the IFA conferance they said it may include Miami Vice, Batman Begins, King Kong, Chronicles of Riddick, and Troy.

That wouldn't be too bad, it'd be good to put an order for Batman, King Kong, Riddick and Troy (directors cut, hopefully)

Ive noticed that the HD-E1's are drying up especially at store that have been flogging it at around £180

Do you think the 5 disk promo is going to come when all HD-E1's have been shipped hence forcing us to buy the more expensive model's.

Been holding back for a HD-E1 was going to get it with the 2 disks and now im holding back for the 5 disks. But if you can only get 5 disk with the £280 player i dont think ill bother.

What does anyone else think?

I've noticed that the E1 is getting thin on the ground.
It's starting to look like the offer won't start until the new players are out.

I'm still waiting for Toshiba get reply to the e-mail I sent them asking if they could tell me when the offer would start.

I thought the 2 disc offer was until the end of August and thus expired

[edit] yup was right

* This offer applies only to Toshiba HD DVD players purchased from a Toshiba Authorised Reseller between
1st May 2007 & 31st August 2007.

We know that the 2 disc offer has ended.

The OP was referring to the new 5 free HD Discs that is due to replace it

Sounds good. Do you know if the UK release is the same as the US? since ASDA have the UK disc for £12.97 delivered.

Is this 5-film offer to the European market definately going to happen?

I find this a very strange marketing tactic by Toshiba! To leak that an offer like this will be made and then not implement it immediately seems crazy as it send the message: ‘hold off from buying’.

I was going order an XE1 next week but I’m holding until the details of this potentially ‘too-good-to-miss-offer’ become clearer.

Still had no reply from the e-mail to Tosh I sent about the offer.:(

I think it will start with the launch of the EP30 & EP35 players in Oct.
The E1 is getting hard to find in stock at a good price (£180), So I would say that when the two new players are launched the offer will start to tempt more people into buying.;)

300 in HD is great

Actually, there little difference compared to the SD version...

300 is probably not a good showcase for HD because the movie has been crushed to death on purpose and lacks detail.

I've seen both formats, and there's no big difference.

The all-movie blue screen feature is great though, and sets it apart from BR which doesn't have this option.

Great movie though!
