I recently bought a Tosh 36ZP18Q (£1460 from Robertsons Online)

I just got a letter from Toshiba offering to extended the guarantee to a total of 5 years + accidental damage for £130.

Does anyone think it's worth the extra money, it would add 9% to the total cost?

Whether you want to take the g'tee out for peace of mind or 'risk' the possibility of having to pay for a repair is up to you.

However, currys are wanting £389.00 for 5yr g'tee.

£130 seems very reasonable indeed - I'd be inclined to go for it, even more so with it being from Toshiba themselves.

£389 !!!! Wow!! They would have to be offering the most amazing service to justify that much.

Usually I don't bother with extened guarantees, I'd expect a telly to be very reliable anyway, but I am seriously considering it.

I've just got a Sony 32DX100 from mail order catalogue. They wanted £229 less 10% commision for 4yr g'tee.

Isn't Curry's price of £389 just highway robbery!

Extended warranties are a complete rip-off and they always will be.

How soon after getting your TV did the warranty offer arrive?

I've recently bought a 50WT29B and for piece of mind I've bought a warranty from Domestic & General who have been very good in the past - they even cover the remote control.

Paid £170 for a total of 5 years.

The reason Currys extended gaurentee is so expensive is because if your tv breaks down and they cant fix it within 4 weeks they replace it for the same model or whatever model you want really to the same value. My sister used their gaurentee before. her tv went on the blink after 2 years. They took it away. 4 weeks later they said we cant fix it come and choose a new tv. Grert piece of mind in my opinion.

It must have been about 10 - 11 weeks. I don't have the exact date Toshiba delivered my tv to hand.

They might have sent it because I sent off the registration card.

Nice telly  by the way , I guess an extra 40 quid isn't bad since it costs nearer £2000 and from what I've been told CRT's are supposed to be a bit more reliable.
